Andy Rooney To Announce Retirement From 60 Minutes This Week

Andy Rooney is saying goodbye.

The 92-year-old newsman will announce his retirement from 60 Minutes during the shows broadcast on Sunday.

Rooneys final segment his 1,097th original essay for the program will be preceded by a retrospective interview with Morley Safer.

His curmudgeonly A Few Minutes With Andy Rooney segment has aired on the newsmagazine since 1978.

Theres nobody like Andy and there never will be, said CBS News chairman Jeff Fager. Hell hate hearing this, but hes an American original. His contributions to 60 Minutes are immeasurable; hes also a great friend.

Rooney joined CBS in 1949.

Hes the author of 16 books.
