Pauline's the one in the middle: Celebrity Apprentice comes to Manly - Manly Daily
A CIRCUS of sport stars, models and the odd politician descended on Manly Beach with the shooting of Celebrity Apprentice today, all in the name of supporting people with breast cancer.
Onlookers braved the wet to see the competing celebrity teams - led by comedienne Julia Morris and rugby great Wendell Sailor - push to raise the most money for their chosen charity.
Morris Team Ignite raised funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, while Sailors Team Unity was backing the Joanne Mackay Breast Cancer Foundation.
The event was held in the lead-up to Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
Members of the public could pay to have their picture taken with the competing celebrities, who included former Miss Universe Australia Jesinta Campbell, Australian swimming icon Lisa Curry and AFL legend Shane Crawford.
The teams also collected donations, several in the thousands of dollars, from businesses and others who showed up on the day.
Contestant and former One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, who was part of Sailors Team Unity, was presented with a $200 donation from aussieBum by a pair of drag queens, dressed as her, which she said she appreciated.
The donation was made on the condition that Ms Hanson appear at the Diva Awards, a gay, lesbian and transgender community night supporting the drag industry.
And Lisa Curry scored a $5000 donation from Dick Smith for saying she loved his peanut butter. Injured Manly Sea Eagle David Williams was among a number of celebrities called in to help support the event and draw a crowd.
The Sea Eagles winger, whose season was ended when he broke his neck in a tackle late last month, arrived in a neck brace to the cheer of fans.
When asked how his neck was, Williams described it as broken.
It looks worse than what it is, he said.
Asked how he felt about watching from the sidelines when the Sea Eagles play the Warriors in Sundays grand final, Williams was circumspect.
Its good that theyre there. Obviously Im a bit disappointed I couldnt be there with them but, what can you do? he said.
Rather them win than not win at all.
Morris revelled in the commotion, saying it was terrific to have the event in Manly.
Its like a ship of fools to be honest, the funnywoman said. There couldnt be a more sexy place than Manly to have this.
People involved in the show could not provide details on how much money was raised. The event will be broadcast at a date yet to be set.
